Be Effective vs. AI

I’m currently reading, actually re-reading, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. It's always interesting to read this foundational "business self-help" book with new knowledge and perspectives. Considering the recent developments in AI, reading this book helps clarify what is noise and what matters. The answer to our concern on how to stay relevant is in the title: EFFECTIVE.

As someone who is using AI, I find that AI is helpful when processing vast amounts of data, automating repetitive tasks, and very useful for putting something on the blank page. However, AI has to be told what to do. It can help generate ideas, but you must make the decision on what to use and/or what to do with the information. So, if you can make effective decisions for yourself and your company, then you have job security.

AI is efficient. Humans can be effective. Make sure you are one of the effective ones by:

  • Embrace lifelong learning. From YouTube and Khan Academy to traditional schooling and certifications, continue learning, and you may want to learn about AI while you're at it.

  • Cultivate expertise and focus. Use your experience and continued learning to be an expert. Double down by focusing on what you are an expert on.

  • Collaborate with AI. You will need to learn to use AI to help you. Learn to collaborate with these tools, and not compete with them.AI is Efficient. Humans can be Effective.
